The Outlaws were a group of friends that joined together at Occidental College at the start of the 1994-95 school year. Committed to half truths, self determined justice, and clear plastic for all, we planted ourselves on the second floor of Norris Yellow, one of Occidental's quad style dormitories. We began the year by decorating the tree out our window by suspending traffic barricades twenty feet up. Later that week the physical plant department, in their infinite wisdom, drove a cherry-picker up to Norris to remove them.
The mayhem continued.
Throughout
the year, we were blamed for many things. Often the incidents involved throwing things off our balcony. I
will admit we did eject many objects we shouldn't have off the second floor;
however, I had no idea that throwing a toilet off the balcony would be
so well remembered. The incident made news in the school paper three times!
The toilet incident began by acquiring an old toilet that we used as an extra chair on our balcony.
The maintenance department told us that if we did not remove the toilet
they would have plumbers remove it and send the bill to us. So Brian, my roommate, and I threw it
off the balcony and into a dumpster. A few minutes, and 140 dB, later campus security came by and advised us not to do
it again (fortunately that was the only one we had) and checked to see
that our bathroom was still intact.
Here is the comic
that appeared in the paper.

The Outlaw name was coined that year with the help of our overzealous hall director in a series of notes she left us. For some reason she felt intimidated. Go figure. The original nine members were: Brian, Kyle, Barney (Daaah... someone spilled some beer in the ashtray... I'll get it), Jerry, Tom (Harley), James (Pucha), Josh, Matt (Big Dog), Katie (The most beautiful woman in the world!!!)Mike taught me how to do a web page!-Katie, and myself.

The next year our numbers expanded.
However, of
spring
'95 there were still only eight Outlaws living in Norris Blue third floor. We were easily recognized by our black and gold "Outlaws" banner above our
balcony and by the neon beverage signs in the windows.
Pictured to the left are six of the '95 Outlaws. From top to bottom are: Josh, Liem, Kyle, Brien, Oliver, and Tom.
